The EIMS Centre serves as a Regional Centre of Excellence and a Reference Laboratory for Environmental Information Management and Decision Support System. The UNIDO/GCLME Regional Activity Center for pollution management is a Center of Excellence in assessing and monitoring marine and coastal pollution in the GCLME region and assist member countries in obtaining pollution data, analysis, conduct periodic specialized training, host quality control and quality assurance systems for stake holders in the GCLME member countries.

Le Centre vise la mise en place d’une politique efficace de prévention des risques, plus étendue, incluant à la fois le milieu marin et continental. Celle-ci s’effectuera à partir des activités qui seront menées, c’est-à-dire les aspects majeurs de la prévention.
Cette politique sera axée sur la promotion de la prévention des risques naturels, anthropiques (technologiques) et dérivés de la manifestation complexe d’interactions entre risque naturel et risque anthropique (les risques sanitaires qui affectent les pays de la région).
